Corporate Matching Challenge

Western New York Media Professionals, Inc, is proud to introduce its corporate matching campaign to raise funds for restoration of the Historic Sattler Broadway Theater. This beloved Theater was built in 1914 by Buffalo department store owner, John G. Sattler, namesake of the famous Sattler’s Department store. It is one of only twenty-seven Historic African American Theaters remaining in the United States of 2,500 total theatres and one of only two left in New York State. Help us bring this cherished Western New York landmark back to life. 

To kick off this campaign, we have received a $10,000 private donation from a local businessman, which was followed by grants from Empire State Development, Preservation Buffalo Niagara, the Preservation League of New York, The Ralph C. Wilson Jr Foundation, and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo for a total $179,000. These funds enabled us to stabilize the building. The next phase is to install a new roof, repair the building’s beautiful terra cotta façade and complete much-needed masonry work. As we have established exciting momentum, we want to challenge corporations and individuals to invest in our local Community by matching or exceeding these funds.

There are many worthy restoration projects in our area, but our story is unique. With the generous past support of WKBW-TV Channel 7, (which was where our headquarters & training programs was located from 1995 until 2015 when relocated to the Ellicott Square Building). The Western New York Media Professionals, Inc has mentored over 5,000 students and has graduated over 500 at-risk youth. Many of our graduates have gone on to successful careers in broadcasting, while others are pursuing professions in law, medicine, skilled trades and other fields. It has been our honor to provide these education programs where no student has ever paid for the training they have received.

We need your help as we work to improve the quality of life for the city of Buffalo by rebuilding the Sattler "Broadway" Theatre into a complex for entertainment, arts, and education. The Western New York Minority Media Professionals (WNYMMP) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3)corporation that is responsible for this project. Thank you for contributing to The Sattler "Broadway" Theatre Project.

According to Reginald Wallace, Project Director, The Broadway Theatre will not be just another theatre renovation, but will be the "most beautiful of all theatre renovations in the area". And it will be designed to offer programs of interest to all area residents.

If you have considered giving to our project and haven't had the opportunity, we are asking that you please consider helping us at this critical time in our renovation plans. We are applying for grants which will require matching funds. We have targeted an opening in the fall of 2023. We are also establishing sponsorships and memberships.
